ARCHIMAGE CREATES BCM TECHNOLOGIES WEB SITE
Architects transfer building design process to Web development.
HOUSTON, November 19, 2002 -- Archimage announced today the launch of a new
Web site for BCM Technologies, Inc. The venture development subsidiary of
Houston's Baylor College of Medicine, BCM Technologies
(www.bcmtechnologies.com)
commercializes inventions of Baylor faculty by forming new companies. Archimage is a
Houston design studio dedicated to computer-based visual arts including architecture,
animation, interactive media and Web development.
Archimage took a traditional building design approach to the project. Architect-trained
Paul Patel, Archimage's lead designer for the project, says "designing and programming a
Web site is very much like programming and designing a building." The process of analyzing
requirements by establishing project goals, collecting facts, and developing concepts "works
for any design problem," he says. "We use the same technique to plan an office building,
produce an animated television commercial or create a children's CD-ROM game."
Linda Bell, BCM Technologies' administrator and officer of several BCMT companies, was impressed
with Archimage's performance from the start.
"From schematic design to final product," Linda notes, "Archimage listened closely to our needs,
asked lots of questions, and responded with highly creative answers." She said the
final product shows that "good designers can design anything."
Baylor College of Medicine formed BCM Technologies in 1983 as an independent corporation to
promote commercializing faculty inventions by licensing technology and forming new companies.
Operating like a venture capital firm, the firm's professional staff comes from the financial
industry rather than academia. BCM Technologies evaluates 120 inventions a year and selects
an average of ten as possible startups.
